Biography

Philippe Forget, Conductor, Composer

Philippe Forget, born in 1970 is a Conductor and Composer of Choral music. He has studied the bassoon, choral direction and orchestral conducting.

Philippe Forget studied at the Austro-Hungarian Academy in Budapest with Wolfgang Harrer, before following the work of James Conlon at the National Opera Paris-Bastille.

From1990 until 2001 as Founder and Director Philippe established the Regional Youth Orchestra of Burgundy.

He was Associated Conductor with the Camerata of Burgundy from 2004 to 2009. In parallel this was a period of close collaboration with the Choir and Soloists of Lyon / Bernard Tetu. Where from 2007 to 2010, he conducted many concerts and created several works as the head of the training, partnering with artists such as Jean-Claude Pennetier and Sylvia Vadimova .

He works regularly in productions of the Opera National de Lyon as Assistant Conductor (Hanjo T. Hosokawa, La Traviata ...) and as a guest conductor (French premiere of Philip Glass opera In the Penal Colony).

He has also been invited to lead the soloists of the Orchestra National de Lyon (Denisov, Berio, Saint-Saens ...) at various concerts.

Since September 2009 he has been Associate Conductor with the Orchestra Regional Bayonne Côte Basque and has been invited to conduct several symphony and opera productions for the coming seasons.

He was invited to Brazil in 2005 by the Brazilian Federal University, where he gave several series of master classes and concerts televised in Belém.

As a Composer he interprets the classical repertoire of Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries, and the official works of Olivier Greif, Akira Myioshi, Toshio Hosokawa, Girolamo Arrigo, Lucio Berio, Philippe Fénelon and Edison Denisov.
His music is a large canvas of chamber and vocal pieces. A lover of the sound of words Philippe Forget has been inspired by the works of Michelangelo, Emily Dickinson and Henry Bauchau.
He was artist in residence at the Abbaye de la Pree from 2000 to 2002.
In 2000 he won the Second International Competition Award "Composer of the Year" at the Ramsgate Spring Festival. In 2004 he won second prize in the International "New Music for Keyboard" in EdinburgHis music is appreciated and interpreted by many performers and is heard on numerous stages (Cami Hall and Brandeis University in New York, Radio France, Switzerland, Great Britain, Brazil, Lebanon, Denmark …). He has recorded two discs with the label EntreMuses.
